Colloidal silver generators are a simple means of producing colloidal silver. For centuries, silver has been known to be an effective antimicrobial agent. For thousands of years, silver has been used as a germ-fighting agent.

The FDA forbids the sale of silver colloids as over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, but they may be bought as dietary supplements.
Most health food stores carry several brands of colloidal silver, and prices of these are gradually beginning to drop. Still, it is possible to spend as much as $10/oz. or more for true colloidal silver. Colloidal silver generators can produce the same amount for much less cost. And they can do it in your home.
Kinds of Colloidal Silver
First, consider the kind of colloidal silver you want. Of all the products on the market, there are three main types:
- Ionic silver
- Silver protein
- True colloidal silver
Of these three, only true colloidal silver is both safe and effective.
Other silver products are inferior in terms of quality. They contain very low concentrations of silver particles, and it is the silver particles that have antimicrobial properties. Also, these products have silver particles that are too large. They can collect and be deposited easily, thus causing Argyria, a side effect that turns the skin a bluish-gray color.
Since true colloidal silver is far less available than inferior products that only claim to be colloidal silver, you may wish to produce your own true colloidal silver solution at home with colloidal silver generators.

1. Make Your Own Colloidal Silver Generators
By making it yourself, you will end up with true colloidal silver. The simplest way to make real colloidal silver at home is by the low voltage electrolysis (LVE) method. A few batteries are connected to silver electrodes and placed in a glass of water. This process causes small particles of silver to become a coherent mass that leaves the electrodes and enters the water.
Though deceptively simple, this method is easy to do wrong. If you do it wrong, you will end up with inferior colloidal silver.

2. Buy Simple Colloidal Silver Generators
Simple colloidal silver generators are extremely easy to use. The electrodes are built-in, so you will not have alligator clips to hold loose electrodes – alligator clips that sometimes must be continually adjusted and may short out.
Simple commercial generators are likely to have a non-conductive, non-leaching generating bottle to protect the electrodes, making the generator easy to handle and store without damage and without loss of parts.

3. Buy Deluxe Colloidal Silver Generators
Most people do not need a deluxe version of the colloidal silver generators. There is little difference in their operation or in the quality of colloidal silver produced. Manufacturers make various claims to push these deluxe models, which yield greater profits. Some promise that all you need to do is fill them with water and press a button – much as you would operate a simple humidifier.
If you are not comfortable with do-it-yourself projects, commercial – even deluxe – colloidal silver generators may be for you. Most people, however, will be readily able to make their own generators. Using only a few pieces of pure silver wire (0.999%), batteries, connecting wires, and distilled water, they can manufacture colloidal silver at home.

Why is ionic colloidal silver inferior to particle colloidal silver?
Most people who consume colloidal silver consume their own home made colloidal silver with a simple easily made colloidal silver generator, which produces ionic colloidal silver. Is it possible to make your own partical colloidal silver. Any information on the subject is greatly appreciated, also looking for plans on making an ionic generator, think I know how, but not sure.
Actually, ionic colloidal silver solutions are not in the least bit inferior to "particle" (i.e., particulate) colloidal silver soutions. Unfortunately, the myth that the particulate form of colloidal silver is somehow superior to the ionic form has been perpetrated by some individuals on the internet who have a financial self-interest in selling an expensive bottled commercial particulate-based colloidal silver product.
The reality is that the ionic form of colloidal silver is the form used in hundreds of clinical studies carried out since the early 1900′s. Even Dr. Robert O. Becker’s ground-breaking research into the effectiveness of electrically generated silver ions, conducted at Syracuse Medical University during the 1970′s and 1980′s, attributed the astonishing infection-fighting power of silver to the silver ion, i.e., the ionic form.
What’s more, Dr. Becker used a small electrical device that generated very low micro-amps of current in order to produce his silver ions within the human body — a device very much like the tiny colloidal silver generators used today which also exclusively make the ionic form of colloidal silver ingested by millions of people across North America to fight off or prevent infections, colds, flus, and even help heal serious chronic degenerative diseases.
Dr. Becker’s research into electrically generated silver ions (i.e., the ionic form of silver) is largerly credited with bringing the healing capacity of colloidal silver to the attention of natural health enthusiasts throughout North America.
Laboratory tests conducted since that time have demonstrated that the ionic form of colloidal silver is up to 10,000 times more effective than the particulate form. This may sound astonishing, even unbelievable, considering the internet propaganda on behalf of the particulate form of colloidal silver. But it is true.
I will quote directly from an article titled "Comparative Analysis Study Shows Ionic Silver to Be Up to 10,000 Times More Effective Than Particulate Colloidal Silver: the End of the Great Particulate vs. Ionic Silver Debate," written by former U.S. Army medic by R.D. Todd:
"The results were astonishing! With or without the HCl mixture added, the Staphylococcus cultures (both S-1 and S-2) on the plates were virtually eradicated in just four minutes when treated with ionic silver. But the culture plates treated with the so-called “true colloid” particulate silver showed only a slight reduction in the bacterial count!
The principal conclusions from the study are as follows:
•Before being treated with HCl, the ionic species of silver achieves total kill in four minutes, and is at least 100 times more potent than the particulate form of silver.
•The particulate form of silver, which does contain a small amount of silver-ions, loses almost all its antibacterial potency when the ionic silver component is removed (a result of the reaction to HCl).
•Comparative antibacterial potency loss in ionic-silver, due to the same HCl treatment, is negligible.
•After being treated with HCl, under the same experimental conditions, the ionic-silver is now shown to be a whopping 10,000 times more potent than the particulate silver.
The results of this study clearly show that ionic species of silver dramatically outperformed the particulate species of silver. In fact, it was not even close!
The facts are: ionic-silver killed all S. aureus microorganisms with only a four minute exposure while the particulate species product was only marginally bactericidal at best, which can be attributed to the small amount of ionic silver found in it."
Indeed, there are over 158 studies listed in The Colloidal Silver Manual (see lifeandhealthresearchgroup.com) that demonstrate the astonishing effectiveness of the ionic form of colloidal silver.
For example, studies like the ones conducted at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, which is home of the world renowned Army Burn Center operated by the United States Army Institute of Surgical Research, have proven beyond any shadow of a doubt that it is the ionic form of silver that is necessary to healing.
The Army Burn Center has been at the forefront of research and development of burn treatments and has been researching the use of silver in medicine for decades. To quote Albert T. McManus, MD, Chief of Microbiology at the Army Burn Center who conducted one such study, “…conversion of silver to silver ions is necessary for efficacy”. In other words, for silver to do its infection-fighting and immune-boosting work, it must first be converted into the ionic form.
